| Delamination failure may be detected in the material by its
sound; solid composite has bright sound, while a delaminated part sounds dull.
The current method used to detect delamination in composite rotor blades is the
coin tap test. During this test, an inspector literally taps the blade with a
quarter to determine the location of delamination. MRT’s delamination detection
robot will automate that test and provide more consistent results allowing
delaminations to be tracked more precisely and over time. The use of this robot
will also eliminate any human error in the detection process and reduce the
current test completion time of 3 hours. |
