Commodity Manager

Summary

The Ducommun Commodity Manager is a member of the Ducommun AeroStructures and Technologies Supply Chain Management organization reporting to the Director of Supply Chain Management representing supply chain initiatives across all of Ducommun Inc.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluates internal buying patterns and needs of internal customers in the aggregate for a specific purchased commodity(s)
  • Proactively understands the market forces in assigned commodity(s) and drives for lowest total cost including improved quality, cycle time, commonality, design, availability, inventory and price
  • Creates and manages Long Term Agreements using LTA gate process and approvals
  • Leads cross functional teams in implementation of agreements including rationalization of the supply base and establishment of goals for cost, quality, delivery and inventory
  • Interacts with LTA suppliers to solve chronic performance problems in quality, cost and delivery
  • Organizes and leads quarterly supplier reviews
  • Facilitates Integrated Cost Reduction plans with suppliers
  • Responsible for cost savings generated by LTA process
  • Supports Bid and Proposal process and participates on make or buy teams including product transition as necessary
  • Leads Program specific supply chain initiatives as necessary

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required

  • Bachelors degree in Supply Chain Mgmt., Business or related area or equivalent experience
  • Five years direct procurement experience, commodity management preferred
  • Computer Skills, Microsoft Office
  • ERP system experience
  • Communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Negotiation skills
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints or mechanical drawings
  • Understands and has ability to apply lean manufacturing and supply chain concepts
  • Strong analytical, communication, interpersonal, written and verbal skills
  • ISM or APICS certification desirable
