Use of Coordinate Measuring machines
confirms quality and precision
|
Each Ducommun AeroStructures
facility has implemented a quality system that meets or exceeds standards
established for the aerospace industry within the United States as well as
internationally. Although each business unit currently utilizes a quality system
unique to their specific location, a uniform philosophy of striving for
operational excellence, exceeding customer expectations, continual improvement
of quality and business systems, compliance to all requirements and measurement
of performance to quality objectives efforts is employed.
Our quality systems are based on
ISO and AS standards, currently recognized around the world. Our DAQS
proprietary system of continuous process improvement heavily leverages the
principles of lean manufacturing. This system is applied and tracked daily to
ensure a culture of continuous process improvement.
We are approved as a quality system
for defense prime contractors, the major airframe manufacturers and as
components subcontractors
Approvals
Ducommun AeroStructures has
upgraded our Quality Management System (QMS) to meet or exceed the requirements
of SAE AS9100 and ISO 9001:2000.
Additionally, all Ducommun
AeroStructures facilities participate in the Nadcap accreditation program for
their respective special processes, which to date, include chemical processing,
heat treatment and NDT.
Department
Each Ducommun AeroStructures facility maintains a local quality management team
and a Quality Management System (QMS) that has been developed and tailored to
meet the specific business and customer needs of the facility. Uniform Mission,
Vision, and Quality Policy statements were developed by Ducommun AeroStructures
Executive Management and incorporated into the QMS at each facility. Current
focus is on upgrading existing QMS's, adopting best practices, and developing
system uniformity where it makes sense.
Labs/Facilities
Each Ducommun AeroStructures
facility possesses quality processes and equipment that directly supports the
products manufactured at that location. Our Orange and El Mirage, California
facilities use a host of conventional measurement equipment and ultrasonic
thickness checking devices for product verification. The Orange facility
utilizes a 5 axis laser scribing system that includes a certified on machine
measurement capability with an envelope size of 8' (W) X 40' (L) X 3' (H).
Complete laboratory capabilities are maintained on site to support the testing
and analysis of etchants, cleaning solutions, and other materials related to the
chemical milling process as well as examination for alpha case and intergranular
attack. Penetrant inspection is performed at the El Mirage facility with a
capability of processing hardware up to 28' in length and 24' in height through
the etch cleaning tanks.
Our Gardena, California facility
uses a combination of conventional, CMM, and state of the art certified on
machine measurement for product dimensional verification. Real time SPC data
collection and transfer capabilities are incorporated into on machine
measurement and provide the operator immediate feedback as to process control
and capability. Laser Tracker measurement is available and used primarily in the
manufacture and verification of tooling and fixturing.

Penetrant inspection is also
performed on site with etch cleaning capabilities up to 24' in length. Our
Monrovia, California facility uses a combination of conventional, CMM, and laser
projection measurement for product dimensional verification. Extensive NDT
capabilities are utilized, including penetrant inspection, X-ray, C-Scan
ultrasonic and gantry squirter NDI scanning systems. Additionally, a fully
equipped process control laboratory is on site to support the testing and
analysis of processing solutions and materials.
Our Parsons, Kansas facility
utilizes conventional and CMM measurement for product dimensional verification.
Penetrant inspection is performed on a variety of products and materials.
